Sun Stories, Giralda Plaza’s Newest Art Installation

Photo by City of Coral Gables

Sun Stories is the latest installation to adorn Giralda Plaza. Following Umbrella Sky and Sunlit Sky, Sun Stories is a colorful and eclectic temporary public art installation.

The concept, one of 36 proposals that competed for the public installation, is by local artist Jessy Nite. Sun Stories is a collection of thousands of colored letters that dance from above creating playful sayings about Coral Gables.  As the sun passes through the day, the shadows of the plexiglass letters become magnified and stretched; moving across the ground and above the people visiting. Nite has exhibited nationally and internationally, most notably in London, Zurich, Vienna and Bangkok.

From now through September 22, art lovers and Downtown Coral Gables residents and visitors can enjoy the installation as well as take lively photos. The BID of Coral Gables will be randomly sharing these photos on Instagram stories, so if you would like to be featured in @shopcoralgables make sure to use the hashtag #sunstories.

The City of Coral Gable’s official Grand Opening Event will take place on Friday, July 26 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event program will include activations that bring the colorful words to life: a fun ribbon cutting, interactive poetry sessions, a popup library, art activities for children and, of course, great live music. Visit the Eventbrite page to learn more!

Additionally, this is the perfect time to stop by the Giralda Plaza Market taking place every Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admire the art installation while shopping goods, products and treats by local makers and crafters!
