Business Spotlight: Lotus Garden

Thai restaurants are a dime a dozen in South Florida. However, Downtown Coral Gables is home to some authentically great spots. Bangkok Bangkok II and Malakor Thai Isaan are both worth a visit.

Another must-visit Thai destination in Coral Gables is Miracle Mile mainstay, Lotus Garden. Operating since November 16, 1986, the restaurant is managed by a brother-sister duo. Cathy Nguyen runs the kitchen, while her brother Swadee oversees the front-of-the-house. Together, they provide long-time fans and new customers alike with hefty portions of authentic Thai cuisine, served in a sunny, art-lined spot with outdoor dining.

From traditional Thai soups and appetizers like Tom Yum Gai and Yum Woon Sen to seafood specialties like Crispy Duck and Scallop Scampi, Lotus Garden is best enjoyed on an empty stomach. Large plates with perfect seasoning satisfy every craving. Those with “plain taste” can find simple yet delicious dishes in the Lotus Garden Delight, which features Chicken and Shrimp with mixed vegetables. The adventurous eaters will be happy to find unique plates on the menu like Frog Legs or the Lotus Garden Omelette, filled with a minced pork filling. Lotus Garden is perhaps most well-known for its Spring Rolls, which are some of the best in town.

With outdoor seating on arguably the quietest block of Miracle Mile, Lotus Garden is a very relaxing spot for people watching. They also provide take-out (perfect family dinners for staying home that provide plenty of leftovers) plus delivery through Postmates. If you haven’t been to this classic restaurant yet, what are you waiting for?
