Unique Things To Do With Kids in Downtown Coral Gables

After the holidays and before Spring Break kids can get a little restless. It feels like all the fun is behind them for the year or simply too far off. But this is quite possibly the best time of year to enjoy family time in Coral Gables! The weather is enviably nice and the cultural calendar is in full swing.

We’ve put together a list of activities to jog some ideas for fun things to do to in these in-between months with fun the whole family can enjoy in Downtown Coral Gables.

At Coral Gables’ Cultural Institutions…

The Coral Gables Art Museum is another must-stop for families looking for unique ways to entertain the kids. Check out their events line-up for upcoming family-friendly events and the exhibits are a convenient way to introduce them to the history of their city and different kinds of art right here in their backyard.

Check out the Coral Gables Art Museum’s City Trekker Camps are day-camps for teacher work days, holidays and spring and summer breaks where kids are encouraged to explore the civic arts of architecture, urban design, historical and environmental preservation, and sustainable development. Campers use the city itself as a classroom and will learn about subjects in a fun way that is different from classroom learning.

Another local cultural institution, the Coral Gables Art Cinema, keeps busy with ways to keep you and your family busy! Check out the Children’s Film Festival each November, where the Cinema partners with the prestigious New York International Children’s Film Festival for a roster of entertaining and engaging films for children and adults alike to enjoy. For Family Day On Aragon, hosted on the second Saturday and Sundays of the month, they screen free classics for the whole family to enjoy.

To Get The Kids Reading…

Every Saturday is story time at Books & Books, gather the kids and get the weekend started with a bit of fun time at our local bookstore. Stick around after to enjoy a nice meal at the cafe (maybe you’re ready for a second coffee by now?) and ask about the staff selection of children’s books for that month.

To Get the Kids Swimming…

At Ocaquatics Swim School your kids will learn how to swim – indoors – in an environment that’s safe and fun. From babies through junior swim team, there’s something for kids of all ages and “Parents and Me” classes so that you can splash around and get comfortable in the water together. An added perk? For each swimming class they teach, they donate one day of water to Charity Water, providing clean water for those who need it.

To Get Your Workout In…

This might not technically be a kid’s activity, but sometimes, parents need to get their activity in – that’s where Burn Boot Camp’s complimentary child watch comes in. They have child care works on staff who have been professionally vetted so that you can concentrate on getting your burn on while your kid in good hands.

Outside in Coral Gables…

It’s Giralda Under The Stars season, this neighborhood favorite event is back for the 10th year! Enjoy live music and family-friendly fun on Giralda Plaza every first Friday of the month through April 2020. The remaining themes for the season include Flamenco Fest (March 6) and Latin Chica Getdown (April 3). Enjoy a meal alfresco at one of the local restaurants’ sidewalk seating and let the kids play in the fresh air, all under the stars during Miami’s most comfortable time of year.

Take a stroll with the kids for Miracle Mile Live on Friday nights to hear live music from 7-10 pm along the iconic thoroughfare. Grab an ice cream, popsicle or gelato and introduce the little ones to different genres played live by local musicians.
